A square which opens into the landscape. This project’s plot is located at the border between two scales of the city. Here the compact historical city that descends along Costa Nova Street suddenly meets the landscape and the modern town. Our proposal intends to make compatible both situations. Attached to the existing party wall by the ancient town, the block starts as a compact structure and dilutes and opens as it meets the other side where it shapes a semi-private square that overlooks the modern town and the landscape. This kind of urban stone platforms are very frequent way of solving the topography of historical Santiago, creating very interesting intermediate urban spaces. The two pieces in which the block is divided at both sides of the triangular square adopt a size that relates them with the neighboring Library and School of Teaching.
